In the run-up to Christmas, work is often crazy busy – which makes it even more important to treat your team to some festive fun. Try these office Christmas games and activities to inject some Yuletide spirit into the workplace.
1. ADD A NEW TWIST TO SECRET SANTA
If you’re fed up with exchanging generic goods to the value of a fiver, why not change the way you do Secret Santa this year? ‘Conspiracy Santa’ is a great way to bring the team together, find out more about your colleagues and – crucially – ensure that everyone gets something they really want. Rather than having individual responsibility for one randomly-chosen co-worker, you’ll work with fellow staff members to pool your knowledge about your selected gift recipients, before ‘conspiring’ together to choose a present they’ll love
2. HOLD A CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY
In place of dress-down Friday, why not hold a Christmas Jumper Day? With the emphasis on fun and frivolity, encourage staff to don their cheesiest seasonal sweaters – light-up Rudolph noses welcome! Play Christmas music in the office and take plenty of photos for a day of light-hearted festive fun.
3. Deck the halls (or desks)
Office Christmas activities bring people together, and there’s nothing to get the festive feelings flowing more freely than putting up the office Christmas decorations. Get everyone involved in dressing the tree – why not make an afternoon of it with mince pies and mulled wine? To encourage a healthy sense of competition, offer a prize for the best-decorated workstation.
4. GIVE OUT AWARDS
As the year draws to a close and you prepare to go your separate ways for the holiday, it’s a good time to look back on all you’ve achieved as a team. An award ceremony is a perfect way to celebrate the year: you can make your awards sincere, recognising team members for their hard work and outstanding achievements – or keep things a little more light-hearted, with prizes for Best Tea-Making or Messiest Desk.
5. SUGAR AND SPICE
There’s something really special about the scent of gingerbread and Christmas spices. Why not hold a festive Christmas bake-off, getting everyone to bring in sweet treats to share? For a more interactive activity, hold a baking workshop, or split into teams and give out prizes for the best gingerbread house.
6. RE-ENACT CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS
From pulling Christmas crackers to donning paper hats, sometimes the old traditions are the best. Serve up a classic Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, put on a Christmas movie like It’s a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street, and play charades – a brilliant group activity that’s perfect for the office. Don’t forget to crack open the Quality Street to make your celebrations complete.
If it’s getting a little cramped in your office this Christmas, a modular building might be the perfect way to expand. Just think – you could get a bigger tree next year with a new office building from Green Modular.
